Hot Inquiries 091117

1.  The number one topic by far is whether or not the patient should get the swine flu vaccination.  I recommend the injection for everyone.  If you have asthma, make sure it is well controlled.  Use your controller medications as prescribed, that is, routinely!

2. There really wasn't a second hot topic last week.

3.  The Great American Smokeout is 11/19/09 this year.  As my faithful readers know, I rarely miss a chance to take a swing at smoking.  Factoid: about 5% of people can quit cold turkey.  About 25% need some sort of aid.  The goal is more important than whether or not you needed a temporary aid.  The national smoking rate rose slightly to 20.8% in 2008 from 19.8% in 2007.  This is one in five people.  Still too high.  Adult smoking rates are highest in the least well-educated.  Write your goal out, tell your family and friends to support you, remove all reminders of smoking to make it hard to restart, then start living a better life.
