Product Tidbits February 2009 Part 2

1. On 12/15/08, the FDA announced that over-the-counter epinephrine metered-dose inhalers will be phased out. "Epinephrine CFC inhalers cannot be made or sold after December 31, 2011, because CFCs harm the environment. This date gives patients time to talk to a doctor and switch to another medicine to treat their asthma." These inhalers were sold under brand names such as Asthmahaler™, Primatene™ Mist, or Bronitin™ Mist.

2. The Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America has released its 2009 asthma capitals list Greenville, SC was ranked number 49, a substantial decrease, and yet not a bad thing, since the top of the list is for the worst cities. May be we are doing something right.

3. Chito Sante is an environmentally friendly fabric, that is actually EPA aproved and has antimicrobial properties.

4. The asthma control test can be accessed online, to help patients and physicians assess how well the asthma is under control. This test is recommended by the latest guidelines for asthma. Be sure to use the proper test for the patient's age.
