Allergy Immunotherapy DVD script

Hello, I am Dr. Neil Kao. Welcome to the Allergic Disease and Asthma Center. We are pleased you have chosen us to manage your allergy and/or asthma condition. We have a combined 68 years of practice in a diagnosis and treatment in all allergic diseases. Our goal is to provide you with the best medical care possible. You have completed your allergy evaluation and are now ready to hear the details of about our immunotherapy program. After you watch this video, you will be given the opportunity to ask questions.

Normally, about 70 to 80% of people have a high immunologic tolerance to allergic substances such as: dust mites, mold, animal dander, and pollens. When they breathe in these allergens, nothing happens because their immune system can tolerate them. About 20 to 30% of the general population has allergies. If you have allergies, then your immune system tolerance is lower than normal. Now when you breathe in your individual allergens, your immune system does not tolerate them. It reacts strongly by releasing chemicals, mainly histamine. These chemicals cause your allergic symptoms, such as: sneezing, itching, congestion, a runny nose, coughing, or wheezing.

The goal of allergy immunotherapy is to raise your immune tolerance as close as possible to normal levels for the long term. The higher your immune tolerance rises, the less allergic symptoms you should have. You may also need allergy medications for your symptoms. Allergy immunotherapy has been given around the world since 1911. Our program is based on studies from Johns Hopkins University, where immunotherapy has been studied in great detail since the 1960s. This is also where Dr. Bruce, our founder, received his training in allergy and immunology. If you decide to proceed with the immunotherapy program, you will be asked to sign a consent form. Then, I will write a formula based on your skin test results for your allergy extract.

This formula will be prepared in our extract laboratory and the first injection of your treatment will be scheduled at one of our offices in three weeks. The details are allergy immunotherapy will follow in a separate presentation. Thank you again for choosing the Allergic Disease and Asthma Center to provide for your allergy and asthma care.
